Collage of billboards honoring "Women's Day" - March 8.
TOP PANEL: A statement from Kemal Atatürk, the father of modern Turkey. (Rough translation: "One must believe that everything we see on the face of the earth is the work of women.")
LEFT PANEL: Why March 8? On this day in 1957, hundreds of women who worked in the textile industry went on strike in New York City. They were protesting low wages, long hours, and the inhumane conditions under which they worked. In the violence that broke out between the protestors and the security forces, 114 women workers lost their lives.
RIGHT PANEL: Atatürk gave Turkish women a role in the forefront of the revolutions that modernized Turkey.
